Lana Del Rey addressed a long-running rumor about her discography while discussing her desire to write a song for the James Bond franchise.
Over the years, some of the music industry’s biggest stars have contributed the theme songs to the 007 movies. Everyone from Paul McCartney and Madonna to Adele, Sam Smith and Billie Eilish has done a title track.
It turns out that Lana also contributed a song to the franchise. However, she got turned down in favor of another artist. In a new interview, she confirmed which song was originally going to be a Bond theme song and jokingly threw some shade at the artist who ultimately won the honor.

“I mean how has that not happened yet,” Lana told BBC when James Bond came up. She then confirmed that her Honeymoon-era song “24″ was written for the franchise.
It was turned down for Sam‘s “Writing’s On the Wall.”
“I wrote that for them. But Sam you did a wonderful job, really,” she said in a jokingly deadpan tone.
Lana isn’t giving up hope that she’ll get her own chance. “One day, maybe…” she said, adding, “But I’m going to continue to do my little Nancy Sinatra thing every now and then and just pretend that it’s the title track.”
In 2016, Sam‘s song won the Oscar for Best Original Song.
