Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti said today that 700 city employees are in danger of being be placed on leave within the next two weeks — 77 are already on unpaid leave — for resisting the city’s mandate that municipal employees get vaccinated for Covid by Dec. 18 and submit to testing paid by the employee in the meantime.

“We will not reach the 80% threshold by the beginning of the year,” said Los Angeles County Health Director Barbara Ferrer today about the county’s vaccination progress. She then noted, “This is one of the 4 measures we must meet to lift restrictions.” Translation: L.A.’s indoor public masking and vaccination requirements will be in place until at least the start of 2022.

Hundreds of people, including Los Angeles municipal employees, protested against Covid vaccination mandates outside City Hall today in a demonstration organized by a group that calls itself Firefighters4Freedom.

Most every indoor public space in Los Angeles — including movie theaters, concert venues, indoor restaurants, gyms, bars, shopping centers, large outdoor events and some city buildings — will technically nrequire proof of full vaccination against Covid-19 starting Monday, though enforcement of the new law won’t begin until Nov. 29.

Today, the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health provided the framework for lifting masking requirements at many entertainment events, workplaces and other indoor establishments.

Los Angeles Sheriff Alex Villanueva revealed today that only 42.8% of his department’s sworn deputies have been vaccinated against the virus that causes Covid-19. Countywide, 72% of eligible residents aged 12 and over are fully vaccinated.

Los Angeles Police Chief Michel Moore said today 1,357 department employees had not submitted their vaccination status as of Friday, and each commander has received a list of their names to begin enforcement of the city’s vaccination and testing mandate.

The production of the Alec Baldwin movie "Rust" reportedly saw multiple accidental discharges take place on the set prior to the one that left cinematographer Halyna Hutchins dead.  All eyes have been on the set’s armorer, Hannah Gutierrez Reed, who had only worked as the armorer on one film prior to leading things on "Rust."
