L.A. County Reports 7 New Covid-19 Deaths And 8,891 New Positive Cases

On Saturday, Los Angeles County passed the milestone of 28,000 Covid-related deaths, reporting 66 new deaths, as well as 41,765 new positive cases. Today’s death count is the highest  the Department of Public Health has reported in a single day since April 2, 2021, with daily deaths having increased fourfold in the course of the last week alone.

With infections still surging, Los Angeles County’s cumulative number of Covid cases throughout the pandemic surpassed the 2 million mark today, with 43,582 new cases confirmed. Those new cases lifted the county’s cumulative case total to 2,010,964 since the pandemic began. Daily cases in the county set an all-time high on Sunday at 45,584.

The Omicron surge in Los Angeles County is showing no signs of slowing down.

Saturday’s tally of Covid-19 cases, deaths and hospitalizations by the Los Angeles Public Health Dept. had some relatively good news – we’re no longer setting new records for cases.

Like much of the NBA, the Los Angeles Lakers’ lineup was ravaged by Covid in December. Los Angeles County’s 43,712 new Covid infections today is the highest daily total of the entire pandemic, breaking a record set just 24 hours before, when 37,215 new cases were announced. Thursday’s number had, in turn, skyrocketed up over 10,000 cases from 26,754 the day before.

Los Angeles County reported a staggering 37,215 new Covid-19 cases today, by far the highest single-day number of the entire pandemic. Hospitalizations and deaths have doubled in the past week as well, although those counts are still well short of the peaks set during last winter’s surge in infections.
