‘Time Of The Heathen’: Newly Restored Print of Peter Kaas’s 1961 Debut Is A Surreal Masterpiece [Review]

Released in 1961 before falling into relative obscurity, Peter Kaas’s “Time of the Heathen” is something of a curiosity. The only film Kaas directed before transitioning back into teaching acting at NYU, this potent thriller showcases a restless filmmaker who manages to marry genre thrills with apocalyptic imagery.    Only identified by the end credits as Gaunt (John Heffernan), the film follows a wayward traveler through upstate New York.

Not fading away: The Rolling Stones rock on strong at Metlife Stadium — in their 80s!

Mick Jagger still have moves like that? That’s the question you kept asking yourself — in a state of complete and utter marvel — during the Rolling Stones’ first of two “Hackney Diamonds” Tour stops at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford on Thursday night. On his first tour as an octogenarian — he turned 80 last July — the man who made Adam Levine look old on Maroon 5’s 2011 smash “Moves Like Jagger” is still out-shimmying us all.Father Time is still on his side.Seeing Jumping Jack Jagger work as hard as ever to give the people what they came — and paid a pretty penny — was enough to restore the faith of even the most cynical New Yorker in the power of rock ’n’ roll.Indeed, 60 years later after the Stones released their self-titled debut in 1964, the eternally bad-boy Brits staged a rock resurrection that the genre desperately needs. It wasn’t only rock ’n’ roll — it was a revelation. And it was in large part due to Jagger, who seems to have Benjamin Buttoned his energy — and body. The man can still rock skinny jeans better than anybody else in the stadium.Jagger was in such perpetual motion from the time he hit the stage to “Start Me Up” — the Stones’ 1981 hit that remains one of the most perfect concert openers of all time — that it was almost a shock when, four songs in, he struck the perfect still pose at the end of “Hackney Diamonds” single “Angry.”Still, if there was ever one single moment that he seemed out of breath, it wasn’t captured by the giant video screens that put his famous lips on blast. And, as if he somehow still had anything to prove, he was relentlessly selling and strutting to new tunes such as “Mess It Up” from the Stones’ underappreciated “Hackney Diamonds” album — which, released last October, was the

‘Anora’ Breakout Mark Eidelstein On Impressing Sean Baker With a Nude Self Tape, Being Called the ‘Russian Timothée Chalamet’ (EXCLUSIVE)

Alex Ritman If Mark Eidelstein’s career takes off in Hollywood, he can thank his decision to record a self tape of himself fully naked. In Sean Baker‘s raucous comedy “Anora,” the young Russian actor plays Ivan, the hilariously energetic, fast-living son of an oligarch happily spending his parents’ millions while decamped in their New York mansion who then falls in love with Mikey Madison’s Manhattan sex worker Ani. It’s a wild ride from start to finish, awash in drugs, sex, violence, gangsters, Vegas weddings and a lounge full of expensive ornaments getting smashed to pieces.

‘Hauntings,’ the ‘impossible’: ‘The Exorcist’ and what you never knew about the iconic horror film

CGI movie technology, it is getting harder and harder to deliver that true spine-chilling internal fear that makes horror films so great.Gen Z and Gen Alpha kids may arrogantly scoff at retro scary movies, but it hasn’t always been this way. There was once a time when picture-goers were so viscerally terrified by what they were seeing on the big screen that it would trigger powerful physical reactions right there in the theater.During Jaws (1975) people fainted and vomited in the cinema during some of the gruesome scenes, while others stopped going swimming in the ocean altogether out of pure fear.Alfred Hitchcock’s classic film Psycho (1960) sparked mania during the infamous shower stabbing scene, with reports of people hyperventilating and passing out in their cinema chairs. However, one of the most horrifying movies to ever hit the big screen, causing widespread panic, fear and repulsion, is William Friedkin’s The Exorcist (1973).Based on William Peter Blatty’s 1971 novel, the film follows the demonic possession of a young girl and her mother’s attempt to rescue her through an exorcism by two Catholic priests. With some wildly disturbing scenes, including some bizarre 360 degree head spinning, eerie spider-walking on the stairs and some disgusting projective lime-green vomit, it shocked those 1970s audiences to their core. One particular vulgar scene involving a crucifix — that is too crude to describe here — shocked and upset many, especially considering the percentage of people who were religious back then. The flick was so scary that even renowned Chicago Sun-Times film critic Roger Ebert was at a loss for words about how it made him feel.“I am not sure exactly what reasons people will have for seeing this movie; surely

‘Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes’ Cast Breakdown: See the Actors Who Brought the New Apes to Life Through Motion Capture

Zack Sharf Digital News Director Moviegoers flocking to see “Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes” in theaters might leave with the same question: What does the cast exactly look like? In the tradition of James Cameron’s “Avatar” franchise and the last “Planet of the Apes” trilogy, “Kingdom” director Wes Ball utilized groundbreaking motion capture technology to make sure every ape character in his movie was played by a real human being. Leading star Owen Teague told Variety that he attended six weeks of “ape school” in order to help his transformation into a primate be as believable as possible. He and the rest of the film’s cast worked with a movement teacher to get in touch with their simian sides.

‘Where The Crawdads Sing’ ending explained: Is Kya found guilty?

Where The Crawdads Sing lands on Netflix this week, but what happens to lead character Kya in the end?The film was based on the massively successful 2018 novel by Delia Owens, and stars Normal People’s Daisy Edgar-Jones as Kya, a young woman living on her own in rural North Carolina, who is accused of murdering local man Chase Andrews (Harris Dickinson).Adapted for the screen by Lucy Alibar (Beasts of the Southern Wild) and directed by Olivia Newman (First Match), the film also boasts ‘Carolina’, an original song written and recorded for the film by Taylor Swift.Speaking about her relationship with the film, Swift said: “Where The Crawdads Sing is a book I got absolutely lost in when I read it years ago. As soon as I heard there was a film in the works starring the incredible Daisy Edgar Jones and produced by the brilliant Reese Witherspoon, I knew I wanted to be a part of it from the musical side.“I wrote the song ‘Carolina’ alone and asked my friend Aaron Dessner to produce it.
