Speaking to the MEN, Wasseem said: “He was a polite and very kind man, never held any grudges or anything bad to say about other people. It’s been really tough for the family, but I’m the oldest and I have to keep things together to make sure we carry on.
“I can’t put into words what the messages of support from the community mean to us and the family, they’ve been really important.” Wasseem says his father died of a heart attack despite being relatively 'fit' and having no underlying health issues.
Wasseem said: “He was doing some DIY around the house, he was fitting a door, and then he said ‘he needed some water’ and that he 'wasn’t feeling right' and then unfortunately he just collapsed.
“He passed away at home and had no time to go to the hospital. He was really fit, never had any health issues or anything like that.
Ikhlaq, originally from Islamabad, came to the country with his family back in the mid 70s and they settled in Oldham. He went to Hathershaw Technical High School before he worked at the local mills, and as a local taxi driver and then eventually becoming delivery driver at the popular Florida Chicken Shop in Oldham town centre.
Ikhlaq leaves behind his wife, three children, two younger sisters and nine grandchildren.
