Kevin Smith: Scrapping ‘Latina Batgirl movie’ looks ‘incredibly bad’

"Clerks" director Kevin Smith revealed the secret to how he convinces Hollywood’s biggest celebrities to star in his films.  "I've known people for years. I've been in the business… nearly 30 years," Smith told Fox News Digital at the "Clerks III" movie premiere.

Scott Huver In addition to reuniting him with several of the “Clerks” actors whose careers he helped launch back in 1994, “Clerks III” gave Kevin Smith another chance to direct his old friend Ben Affleck in a cameo role — and pay tribute to their long friendship with a very inside joke. The two previously worked together on several early-career films, including “Mallrats,” “Chasing Amy,” “Dogma” and “Jersey Girl,” and as Smith told Variety at the new film’s Hollywood premiere at the Chinese 6, Affleck was extremely eager to appear in a cameo as one of several famous faces — including Sarah Michelle Gellar, Freddie Prinze, Jr., Danny Trejo and Melissa Benoist — auditioning for a role in the movie-within-a-movie being made by the Quick Stop clerks.

After attending Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck’s wedding, director Kevin Smith was convinced that true love does exist.  "The wedding as presented, just absolutely beautiful," Smith told Fox News Digital exclusively at the "Clerks III" movie premiere.  "Watching two people who worked so hard to get to that moment close the circle and how clearly in love that they are with one another was inspiring," the "Clerks III" director remarked. Smith was a guest at Lopez and Affleck’s three-day wedding weekend at Affleck's 87-acre Georgia estate.

The 52-year-old comedian and filmmaker - who starred alongside Ben in the likes of 'Chasing Amy' and 'Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back' - quipped that he was not in attendance at the lavish bash at Ben's sprawling mansion at first, however, he later gushed about how "overwhelmingly emotional" the ceremony was. Jason Mewes, who played Jay in 'Jay and Silent Bob', was also there with his wife Jordan Mansanto.

Last week, it was revealed that Warner Bros. Discovery had shelved a nearly $90 million budgeted superhero film with “Batgirl.” The movie confused many as the film was mostly completed, and on the company’s earnings call back on Thursday, it was stated they would only release films they “believed in.”  Director Kevin Smith, who has worked on many comic book movies or TV projects, has thrown his own two cents into the controversial move.

After Warner Bros.’ shocking announcement of the DC Comics film "Batgirl" being canceled, actress Leslie Grace — who was slated to play Barbara Gordon/Batgirl — is speaking out for the first time.  The "In the Heights" star took to Instagram on Wednesday and shared a series of movie images and footage from the set of the nearly $100 million superhero film, starting with the caption "Querida familia!" — meaning "Dear Family!" in Spanish.  "On the heels of the recent news about our movie ‘Batgirl,’ I am proud of the love, hard work and intention all of our incredible cast and tireless crew put into this film over 7 months in Scotland," Grace remarked. She continued to say how truly "blessed" she felt working with an incredible team on the project, and added a special note to all "Batgirl" fans: The DC Comics film "Batgirl" was set to feature "In the Heights" star Leslie Grace as Barbara Gordon/Batgirl.
