Questions were raised about the Mother's Day photograph of the Princess of Wales after major news agencies questioned whether it had been edited. The image, which shows Kate Middleton with her three children for the first time since her abdominal surgery in January, faced intense scrutiny following the release of the snap.
Kate issued a statement addressing the controversy surrounding the doctored photo on Monday. The royal apologised for editing the intimate family snapshot that was circulated around the internet and media on Sunday.
In a note, signed C for Catherine, she voiced: "Like many amateur photographers, I do occasionally experiment with editing. I wanted to express my apologies for any confusion the family photograph we shared yesterday caused. I hope everyone celebrating had a very happy Mother's Day. C."
The Mother's Day photo was taken at Windsor by the Prince of Wales earlier this week, according to the palace, reports the Mirror.
The image depicts Kate sitting comfortably with Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis at her sides while Prince George stands behind them - all four beaming as they look towards the camera.
A Palace source said: "The Princess has posted a statement on social media. This was a casual, family photo taken by the Prince of Wales.
"Their Royal highnesses wanted to share a relaxed picture of the family together for Mother's Day. The Princess made minor adjustments as she mentioned in her statement on social media.
"The Wales family spent Mother's Day together and had a lovely day."
Last night, Getty Images, AFP, Reuters and Associated Press pulled the image after expressing concerns. This morning, the Press Association also removed the photo.
