Well, it happened. Elon Musk actually took ownership of Twitter. We’d love to say everyone was worried over nothing, but… certainly some big changes are already afoot. And they’re not exactly reassuring.

A cryptic tweet by Elon Musk and late-night purge of top executives closed Twitter’s takeover saga as chaotically as it began, with no formal announcement just a four-word post by the self-declared Chief Twit — “the bird is freed.”

Even if you’re a billionaire businessman and musical icon, you can’t run away from spreading hate speech. Over the past week or so, we’ve seen the fall from grace of rapper Kanye West.

Ice Cube has taken to Twitter to refute comments made by Kanye West in an interview linking the rapper to West’s antisemitic views.In an appearance on the Drink Champs podcast – in which he made several inflammatory statements, and which has since been taken down from online platforms – West referenced Cube multiple times. At one point, West claimed that Cube had “really influenced” him to “get on this antisemite vibe”.West has made a slew of antisemitic comments over the past weeks. A post directed at the Jewish community led to West being suspended from Instagram and later Twitter, where he wrote that he “[would be] going death con 3 [sic] On JEWISH PEOPLE”.West’s comments were criticised by the likes of David Schwimmer, John Legend, Jack Antonoff and KISS‘ Paul Stanley.

Kanye West has agreed to buy Parler, the social media service that promotes itself as the “premiere global free speech platform”, though critics see it more as the place online where people can share outrageous, usually right-wing opinions without the risk of being filtered or banned.As you may have noticed, West has been spouting ever increasing amounts of nonsense of late. The app only returned to Google Play Store last month.News of Kanye’s acquisition of Parler comes amid a turbulent few weeks for the artist which began when he wore a “White Lives Matter” t-shirt at a Paris fashion week show.
