Joshua Bassett is getting candid about a health crisis he faced last year amid the public scrutiny over Olivia Rodrigo‘s “Driver’s License.” If you don’t know, it is widely believed that the 21-year-old actor/entertainer and Olivia, 19, were a couple and that the song is about their split. They have never confirmed a relationship.

“If I look at my last year, the difference between the good days and the not good days comes down to whether I took time for myself,” Joshua told People, adding that the stress from the situation and the public scrutiny from it all hit him extremely hard
In the weeks leading up to his medical episode, he said “every day I felt worse and worse.”
“I was sleeping 16 to 20 hours a day,” he added. “I couldn’t even stand up for longer than 30 seconds.”
Then, just days after “Driver’s License” was released, Joshua released his song “Lie Lie Lie” which he says had been scheduled to be released on that day for a while despite the timing.
“I felt my heart literally failing,” Joshua said after the release of the song. “I was like, ‘This isn’t just anxiety. This is bad.’”
He then went to the hospital.
“The doctors were like, ‘If you hadn’t checked in within 12 hours, you would have died in your apartment,’” Josh said, adding that the illness might have been stress-induced. “It’s wild that I was this close to taking another nap.”
Nine days later, he was discharged from the hospital but was still concerned with his mental health.
“I was even more depressed and stressed,” he added. “I had a panic attack every single day.”
