Jonnie Irwin has opened up on living with terminal cancer, revealing he recently celebrated his 50th birthday over six months early. The A Place In The Sun presenter, 49, was initially given six months to live when first diagnosed with stage four lung cancer in 2020, but has outlived doctor’s predictions with the help of medication, radiotherapy and chemotherapy.
Dad-of-three Jonnie, who recently returned to work, spoke about his birthday celebrations and how his cancer has impacted his parenting abilities in a new interview. Speaking about how he's doing at the moment, he said: “I’m weak now, fragile and my memory is terrible… but I’m still here." Speaking to The Sun, Jonnie recalled how he was recently playing a game of football with his eldest son Rex, three, and grew frustrated as he "couldn't get near the ball".
"I tried to play football with Rex the other day and was in goal and I couldn’t get near the ball. It was so frustrating," he told the publication.
Jonnie, who is also dad to two-year-old twins Rafa and Cormac with wife Jessica Holmes, went on to say he used to be "very sporty" but suddenly things have changed and he felt like a "granddad" during the game with his son.
