The banlieues of Paris, the street footballers in Sao Paulo, the academy talent factories in Lisbon - all of them production lines for a steady flow of talent - but to the list can be added a small triangle just south of Manchester that might be called upon to help rescue England's Euro 2024 campaign in Germany tonight.

William Earl Jon Stewart got behind “The Daily Show” desk Thursday evening for a special, live-broadcast edition, going on air minutes after the first 2024 debate between President Biden and former president Donald Trump concluded on CNN. Tony and Golden Globe winner John Lithgow will take on the role of Roald Dahl, as previously announced, joined by Olivier Award winner Elliot Levey as Tom Maschler, Dahl’s British Jewish publisher. The ensemble cast includes Rachael Stirling as Dahl’s fiancée Felicity Crosland, Romola Garai as Jewish American publisher Jessie Stone, Tessa Bonham Jones as housekeeper Hallie and Richard Hope as handyman Wally Saunders.

Selome Hailu Amazon MGM Studios has given a pilot order to “The Nightbeast,” a horror comedy starring Tatiana Maslany. In “The Nightbeast,” per the official logline, “a young mother unsatisfied with her seemingly perfect suburban life begins an affair with the boogeyman in her son’s closet — a surprisingly sexy man called the Nightbeast.

Jon Richardson appears to have thrown himself into work following his split from wife Lucy Beaumont.The comedian is among the famous faces rumoured to be appearing in a new BBC series, with filming having already wrapped. Jon, 41, is said to be taking part in the celebrity edition of Interior Design Masters, which will land on BBC later this year. Reports claim he will join the likes of Martin and Shirlie Kemp, Leomie Anderson, Darren Harriott and Joanne McNally on the series, hosted by Alan Carr.

Screenwriter and director Richard Curtis will receive the Jean Hersholt Humanitarian Award, while James Bond producers Michael G. Wilson and Barbara Broccoli will be bestowed with the Irving G.

For only the second time in its 15 year history there is no actor among the honorees for this year’s select group receiving the Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences Governors Awards. The AMPAS Board Of Governors have chosen to give Academy Honorary Awards to music legend Quincy Jones and veteran Casting Director Juliet Taylor, the Jean Hersholt Humanitarian Award to British writer/director Richard Curtis, and the Irving G. Thalberg Memorial Award to producers Michael G. Wilson and Barbara Broccoli. The awards ceremony, always a highlight in the very long Oscar season will take place on Sunday November 17, 2024 at the Ray Dolby Ballroom at Ovation Hollywood.
