‘Joker 2’ musical elements will “surprise” people, says Zazie Beetz

Earlier this week, James Gunn cast David Corenswet and Rachel Brosnahan in his upcoming “Superman: Legacy” as Clark Kent/Superman and Lois Lane. But who will play Kal-El’s main adversary, Lex Luthor, in the first DCU film? According to reports, it’s down to Alexander Skarsgård and Bill Skarsgård to play the villainous mad scientists/CEO.

As mentioned in several trade outlets in the past few weeks, two top contenders for the role of the Man of Steel and Lois Lane were Rachel Brosnahan, known for “House Of Cards” and “The Marvelous Mrs.

Zack Sharf Digital News Director Jennifer Lawrence achieved global super-stardom by landing the role of Katniss Everdeen in Lionsgate’s “The Hunger Games” franchise, which launched in 2012 and spanned four films through 2015. The franchise grossed $2.9 billion at the worldwide box office with Lawrence at the forefront. However, Lawrence’s tenure as Katniss would not have been possible had a different audition gone in the Oscar winner’s favor. “I auditioned for ‘Twilight,'” Lawrence confirmed during a recent interview on “The Rewatchables” podcast. “They turned me down immediately. I didn’t even get a callback. But my life would’ve been totally different. I got ‘Hunger Games’ I think, like, a year later. It was probably after ‘Winter’s Bone.'”

James Gunn has called out “really lazy” superhero movies which have become “too generic”.The filmmaker, who was appointed co-CEO of DC Studios with Peter Safran last year, discussed the current superhero movie landscape and his plans for the DC Universe during an appearance on the Inside Of You podcast.Speaking to host Michael Rosenbaum, Gunn agreed there are “too many” superhero films and TV shows, adding that the next iteration of DC would not “overextend” itself.“We’re not going to overextend ourselves with DC,” Gunn said. “We’re going to be very careful with the product we put out and make sure everything is as good as it can possibly be.”The director, who is best known for Marvel’s Guardians Of The Galaxy trilogy, however believes the biggest problem isn’t quantity but the quality of superhero stories.“What’s happened is people have gotten really lazy with their superhero stories,” Gunn added.

The Warner Bros. comic book movie, starring Ezra Miller as the eponymous, timeline-spanning speedster, has grossed $210.9 million globally, including a lousy $87 million at the domestic box office. It’s far less than what a film of its size and scope — it cost $200 million to make and another $100 million to market — needs to break even in its theatrical run. China is leading the foreign territories with a lackluster $23.6 million followed by Mexico with $14.4 million and the United Kingdom with $8.5 million.

Jem Aswad Executive Editor, Music Grammy-winning singer-songwriter Sara Bareilles has announced a special initiative to help save Rockwood Music Hall, the long-running independent New York City music venue, which is in danger of closing. The #PreserveRockwood benefit concert series will launch on June 30 with Bareilles and will be an opportunity to see artists perform in the venue’s intimate setting while helping to keep it alive. 100% of the proceeds from the shows will be donated to Rockwood to help continue a space for independent and emerging artists to perform. Other artists initially joining the series include Chris Thile and Michael Daves (July 1), Amy Helm (July 6), Isabel Hagen (July 10), Ingrid Michaelson (July 20), Elle King (July 31) and The Lone Bellow (August 10), and more.

“The Flash” currently sits at $141 million at the global box office, marking another meager showing for a DCEU film in theaters. And now only two films remain to end the franchise’s run on a high note: James Wan‘s much-anticipated “Aquaman And The Lost Kingdom” in December and Angel Manuel Soto‘s “Blue Beetle” later this summer.

As the DC Universe enters a new era under Peter Safran and James Gunn’s vision, many projects were scrapped or left in development hell. However, Blue Beetle director Angel Manuel Soto says his film is part of the future that the DC co-heads are building.

Reviews for Warner Bros.’ long-in-the-works “The Flash” movie have been largely favorable to mixed, but most critics agree the film is the latest comic book tentpole to suffer from unappealing visual effects. Leaked scenes on social media have also led to fan bafflement over the film’s VFX, especially an opening sequence in which Ezra Miller’s superhero speeds to Gotham City to save a bunch of falling babies from a collapsing hospital. To say the VFX babies in “The Flash” opening scene are rendered in a hugely un-human way would be an understatement. The same goes for all of the human characters who appear during the movie’s many time travel sequences. Suffice to say, none of them look human at all.
