Showcasing Oscar contenders at these annual events is going to be much more difficult now that SAG-AFTRA has joined the WGA on the picket lines. “You can’t premiere movies anywhere without your stars,” the executive said. “No stars, no movie.” And SAG-AFTRA has made it clear that its members are not to do any promotional activity around their movies until a new contract deal is reached and ratified. So that means that the red carpets that make these festivals massive media events will be significantly less celebrity-studded. So why would studios shell out hundreds of thousands, even millions of dollars, to launch a movie at one of these gatherings?

Elton John has officially completed his ‘Farewell Yellow Brick Road’ world tour in Stockholm, after 333 shows and nearly five years.Performing in the city’s Tele2 Arena on Saturday night (July 8), John’s final song of the night – and, by extension, the entire tour – was the tour’s semi-title track, ‘Goodbye Yellow Brick Road’. Before performing the song, Sir Elton gave a final speech to the reported 45,000 people in attendance to thank them for their support across his entire career.“I’ve had the most wonderful career… beyond belief,” said John (via Rolling Stone).

Jack Ryan on Amazon Prime Video is back for its fourth season.Created by Carlton Cuse and Graham Roland, the action series is the latest adaptation of Tom Clancy’s CIA analyst hero where he’s depicted by John Krasinski. He’s the fifth actor to play the character, following Alec Baldwin, Harrison Ford, Ben Affleck and Chris Pine.Other cast members in the series include Wendell Pierce, Abbie Cornish, John Hoogenakker, Michael Kelly, Betty Gabriel, James Cosmo and Ali Suliman.The first season debuted back in 2018, followed by the second season in 2019. Zack Sharf Digital News Director James Mangold is moving on to direct a “Star Wars” tentpole following “Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny,” but it’s not his first go-around with the Lucasfilm franchise. Back in 2018, news broke that Mangold had been hired to direct a movie about the bounty hunter Boba Fett. He was also set to co-write the project with Simon Kinberg, best known as a writer and producer on the “X-Men” movies. Mangold’s Boba Fett movie never got off the ground, and he recently said on the “Happy Sad Confused” podcast that it wasn’t too surprising given the overall tone of the project. “At the point I was doing it I was probably scaring the shit out of everyone,” Mangold said. “I was making much more of a borderline R-rated, single planet spaghetti Western. They probably would never be able to embrace Baby Yoda if I had made that. It didn’t really belong in the world I was kind of envisioning.”

Harrison Ford and his "Indiana Jones" co-stars had a great time filming the upcoming fifth movie. In a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly, Phoebe Waller-Bridge revealed what it was like meeting Ford for the first time.  She explained her first interaction with the actor was through a voicemail he left her, which she said "was actually great because I got my first screaming reaction out of the way without him actually having to be there." "He immediately went, 'Hey!' like an old friend," Waller-Bridge said, recalling the first time they met in person.

Zack Sharf Digital News Director Dan Akyroyd admitted in a recent interview with The Daily Beast that he probably would not put on Blackface for a movie role today like he did 40 years ago in the blockbuster comedy “Trading Places.” Akyroyd starred in the John Landis-directed film as a rich investment broker who switches lives with a broke con artist, played by Eddie Murphy. Akyroyd’s character appears in Blackface and sports dreadlocks and a Caribbean accent during one scene set on New Year’s Eve. “I was in Blackface in that film, and I probably couldn’t get away with it now,” Aykroyd said. “Eddie and I were improvising there. Eddie is a Black man and his entourage were all Black people, and I don’t think they batted an eye. There was no objection then; nobody said anything. It was just a good comic beat that was truthful to the story.”

The most extraordinary thing about working with Harrison is that you’re definitely at work — in that his work ethic is so on point, and his discipline is so extraordinary — but because he’s that specific and the foundation of the work is really strong, the rest of it can be really fun. There were a lot of pranks… lots of pranks.”

And well, it was funny because I’ve been a producer in the studio for a long time, since we started because I co-founded the studio with Tomm Moore and Nora Twomey.
