Joseph Maldonado-Passage, aka Joe Exotic, the subject of the wildly popular Netflix docuseries Tiger King: Murder, Mayhem and Madness that detailed the raconteur animal handler’s role in a murder-for-hire plot against rival animal-rights activist Carole Baskin, is getting resentenced for the crime.

Joseph Maldonado-Passage, aka “Joe Exotic” from Netflix’s “Tiger King,” has won an appeal of his prison sentence. Maldonado-Passage, who is currently serving a 22-year sentence for attempting to have his rival Carole Baskin killed, will be resentenced.

told Variety. “They felt at one point that it was lightning in a bottle, but that point has since faded into the distance and it’s no longer relevant.”Almost immediately following the 2020 release and rise of the Netflix hit “Tiger King: Murder, Mayhem and Madness” — which chronicled the rivalry between big-cat wrangler Joe Schreibvogel Maldonado, a k a Joe Exotic, and his nemesis, Carole Baskin — there was a race to see who could create a program centered on the dueling enthusiasts.

No one can blame Carole Baskin for this one. After a highly anticipated Tiger King scripted series was announced last year, Amazon — and star Nicolas Cage — have chosen not to move forward with the project.

It looks like Nicolas Cage won’t be stepping into the cowboy boots of Joe Exotic after all.  Following the immense success of the highly improbable Netflix documentary series "Tiger King: Murder, Mayhem and Madness" in 2020, the eclectic actor was tapped for an eight-part dramatization of the life of the series’ subject, Joseph Maldonado-Passage, better known as Joe Exotic.

Nicolas Cage has revealed that he won’t be playing the role of convicted felon Joe Exotic as Amazon has reportedly shelved the “Tiger King” drama series. Amazon felt the series had become “past tense”, since “it took such a long time for them to come together,” the 57-year-old actor, an Oscar winner whose performances have been translated to thousands of memes, told Variety.

John Cameron Mitchell was photographed in costume as Joe Exotic on Sunday.  The actor is starring in the upcoming Peacock series as the zookeeper who became famous from the Netflix series "Tiger King." Actress Kate McKinnon will play Carole Baskin and Kyle MacLachlan will star as Baskin’s husband, Howard. Mitchell filmed a celebratory PDA scene in front of a pet shop in Brisbane on Sunday.

Nicolas Cage will not be playing Joe Exotic after all.
