Joe Lycett recently caused panic in Parliament after he leaked a parody report about the Downing Street lockdown parties. And now, the comedian's heart-breaking reason for doing so has been revealed. Joe, 33, lost his best friend at the start of lockdown and he had to hold a "tiny insufficient funeral" due to rules in place at the time.
Now, the star has revealed his "anger" of the death of his best friend, and wrote on Twitter: "I'm angry right now probably for the same reason many other people are angry. "In the early stages of lockdown in 2020 my best friend died from cancer." Joe went on to explain that his best firmed had always supported him, including through his entire comedy career. "I watched him slip away, gradually, over months, and all that comes with it," Joe continued. Adding: "We had a tiny insufficient funeral, because we were following the rules, and I drove his kids away from that funeral back to Birmingham without any sort of wake." The funeral had adhered to the rules put in place by the government at the time.
Joe's heartfelt statement continued: "To hell with my dead friend, they think, and all your dead friends and dead relatives. "You followed the rules and we didn't but we're in power and that's all that matters so spin on it". Joe says he believes the government are "about power and little else," as he shared that he doesn't usually get "political."
