Joe Biden‘s presidential campaign will try to steal some of the media attention on New Hampshire on Tuesday with a Northern Virginia rally focused on the aftermath of the Supreme Court’s repeal of Roe vs. Wade.
Biden, First Lady Jill Biden, Vice President Kamala Harris and Second Gentleman Doug Emhoff will all appear at the rally, with plans to also introduce a new ad targeting women and swing voters. Campaign surrogates also will be holding events, characterizing efforts to restrict abortion at the state level as “Trump’s abortion bans.”
Much of the media focus that day will be on New Hampshire and the Republican primary, as former UN ambassador Nikki Haley tries to slow former President Donald Trump in his effort to secure the party’s nomination. After Trump’s lopsided victory in the Iowa caucuses and her third-place finish, Haley’s team has been setting expectations for a strong second, as opposed to a win, in the Granite State.
Biden is not competing in New Hampshire, the result of a stand off in which the Democratic National Committee insisted that South Carolina would be the first-in-the-nation Democratic primary yet the Granite State is moving forward with the party primary, anyway. Voters will have to write his name in on their ballot, but two Democratic rivals, Rep. Dean Phillips (D-MN) and self-help author Marianne Williamson will be on the ballot. Unaffiliated voters also have the option of casting a ballot in either party primary.
