A new flight route from Glasgow to Greece is now available through Jet2 and Jet2holidays, to give Scots holidaymakers more travel options.
On Wednesday afternoon, the airline saw off its premiere flight with more planned over the coming months from Glasgow Airport to the Greek island of Kos.
Ahead of what is predicted to be a busy summer, Scottish travellers can now fly out to the destination every Wednesday from May 4 to October 26.
According to Jet2, the new course is due to increased demand for Summer 2022 flights and holidays from independent travel agents and customers, reports Glasgow Live.
Featuring bustling party towns, relaxing beachside resorts, and traditional fishing villages, Kos is a popular summer destination amongst travellers.
CEO of Jet2.com and Jet2holidays Steve Heapy said: “We are delighted to see our first flight take off to Kos from Glasgow Airport today.
"It is fantastic to be operating to this popular sunshine destination from Glasgow Airport, as we know that this new route will prove popular with customers and independent travel agents in the region.
With 30 sun and city destinations on sale this summer from the base, we are pleased to be offering an unrivalled programme for Summer 22 and giving customers and independent travel agents huge choice when it comes to enjoying a holiday with our award-winning airline and tour operator.”
It follows the news last week that operator easyJet was launching new routes from Scotland to Greece this summer.

ATHENS, Greece -- A more than 3,000-year-old gold signet ring that was stolen from an Aegean island in World War II, crossed the Atlantic, was bought by a Nobel Prize-winning Hungarian scientist and ended up in a Swedish museum has found its way back to Greece. It was the latest in a series of coups by Greek authorities seeking the return of works plundered from the antiquities-rich country — even though an initial effort by the Swedish museum to return the ring apparently fell between the cracks of 1970s bureaucracy. The Greek culture ministry said Friday that the gold Mycenaean-era work from Rhodes, decorated with two facing sphinxes, was willingly returned by Swedish officials who provided full assistance with documenting the artifact and its provenance.Greek experts confirmed the identification, and the piece was handed over in Stockholm by Vidar Helgesen, executive director of the Nobel Foundation, to which the ring had been bequeathed by the Hungarian biophysicist. The foundation, which presents annual awards for outstanding achievement in several fields, had given it to the Museum of Mediterranean and Near Eastern Antiquities in Stockholm.Greek Culture Minister Lina Mendoni thanked the Nobel Foundation and Swedish authorities for the repatriation, saying it “shows their respect for modern Greece and our constant efforts to fight the illegal trafficking of cultural goods.”The ring, which would have been a status symbol for a local nobleman in the 3rd millennium B.C., was discovered in 1927 by Italian archaeologists in a Mycenaean grave near the ancient city of Ialysos on Rhodes.

Manori Ravindran International EditorForest Whitaker has shed some new plot details about Francis Ford Coppola’s mystery project “Megalopolis,” which is set to start shooting in August. The actor-producer, who is in Cannes to receive the festival’s honorary Palme d’Or, suggested he had a substantial role in the new movie, and spoke favorably of Coppola’s script, which is a long-gestating passion project that’s been in the works for 20 years. Coppola invested more than $100 million of his own resources to make the film, which is his first film since 2011’s “Twixt.”“The cast is coming together,” said Whittaker, who praised Coppola as an “amazing filmmaker” that he was excited to work with.
Elsa Keslassy International CorrespondentEight years after “Maps to the Stars,” David Cronenberg is coming back to the Cannes Film Festival with what looks to be a big bang. Weaving together equal parts body horror and dystopian panache, “Crimes of the Future” instantly became one of the most buzzed-about competition films after Neon dropped the trailer on April 14, the day of Cannes’ press conference. The lushly-lensed film, which reunites Cronenberg with his muse Viggo Mortensen (“A History of Violence,” “Eastern Promises”) along with Kristen Stewart and Lea Seydoux, could prove as divisive as the Canadian master’s 1996 cult film “Crash” which went on to scoop Cannes’ very first Special Jury Prize for “its audacity, daring and originality.” Ahead of the start of the festival, Cronenberg sat down with Variety in Paris to talk about the long-gestating “Crimes of the Future,” the making of the picture, its underlying themes, while speaking candidly about the difficulty of financing challenging films, as well as his stance on streamers and U.S.

NEW YORK -- The summer movie season has not, traditionally speaking, been known for its nuanced attention to female sexuality. But smack in the middle of Hollywood’s high season of masculine thrill rides and sci-fi fantasies this year is “Good Luck to You, Leo Grande,” a compassionate comedy in which Emma Thompson stars as a widow seeking romantic excitement with a suave sex worker, played by newcomer Daryl McCormack. The film, a Searchlight Pictures release to debut June 14 on Hulu, is an intimate two-hander coursing with many seldom discussed issues of sexuality and shame, pleasure and repression.“It’s like a little atom bomb,” says Thompson, speaking by Zoom from Scotland.
