As Survivor gets closer to Season 50, fans of the CBS competition reality series have been speculating what the format for the milestone season will be.
Host Jeff Probst recently revealed in an interview that producers have not agreed on an idea yet.
“We have not come up with our idea for 50 yet,” Probst told EW. “Obviously, we think about it, but I think it’s easier to think about it when you’re writing about Survivor rather than when you’re producing it.”
Survivor is currently airing Season 46, and the host previously mentioned that there would not be any returning plays until at least Season 48.
“We still have 47, 48, and 49, and you might think I’m deflecting, but I don’t. To me, those are stress-inducing problems,” he continued. “What are we going to do in 47? What are we going to do in 48? What are we going to do in 49?”
It was Survivor Season 40 where the CBS competition saw past winners return to become the ultimate champion.
“Then, if we get to 50, what are we going to do? And how do you top Winners at War? What is the idea that would be fun to do?” Probst said. “I don’t know. We’re working on it, dreaming about it a lot. Don’t have the answer yet.”
Probst was recently featured on Deadline’s Contenders TV where he talked about the CBS mandate to make Survivor be 50% BIPOC.
“That will go down as one of the most positive and significant changes ever in Survivor,” Probst said. “More people are applying now than ever, and it’s going up every season in every single category — African-American, East Asian, Middle Eastern, South Pacific Islander, Latino/Hispanic, Asian. it’s the perfect illustration of what we say all the time, which is representation matters.”
