Jean-Marc Vallee‘s cause of death has officially been revealed.
The Dallas Buyers Club, Sharp Objects, and Big Little Lies director died suddenly and unexpectedly on Christmas Day in 2021 at the age of 58.
He was found dead at his cabin outside Quebec City, Canada the following day, and a cause of death was not immediately revealed.
On Wednesday (April 13), Jean-Marc‘s family shared the final coroner’s report.

In a statement from his family shared with Deadline, Jean-Marc‘s death was “a fatal cardiac arrhythmia secondary to severe coronary atherosclerosis.
His sons Alex and Émile added in their statement, “Testimonials of friendship, esteem and respect for our father and for his work are still coming from around the world. We are sincerely grateful and we hope that his creativity will continue to serve as inspiration and guidance to the people in this industry that he was so passionate about.”
They also also said they will soon be announcing details for commemorative events in their father’s honor.
