Wetherspoons, which has more than 800 pubs across the UK and Ireland, says it was a "commercial decision" to close and offload the pubs.
The popular chain had previously warned it was expected annual losses of around £30 million for the year to July amid rising staff wages and spending on repairs and marketing. Controversial businessman Tim, who was a prominent backer of the Leave campaign, recently raised eyebrows by claiming that Brexit would work if the tariffs were removed. And it seems the outspoken millionaire hasn't attracted much sympathy on social media.

One person tweeted: "The first 32 Wetherspoons pubs are being sold off, shed a tear for Tim Martin. Or have a laugh.
