Actor and talk show host James Corden has opened up about his decision to quit presenting his popular late night talk show The Late Late Show. The British star, 44, has hosted the American talk show since March 2015, becoming a household name in the country, but announced he was stepping down in April this year. He has now said he made the decision to leave after realising that it felt like “a greater risk to stay".
It’s believed that James has extended his contract with CBS to continue presenting until the summer of 2023.The 44 year old has now appeared on BBC Radio 4’s This Cultural Life, where he spoke about his decision to leave. He also revealed that he feels as though he had to “bully his way to the top". He said: “If you’re from a working-class environment, you’re not bred for success. The talent is everywhere, and opportunity isn’t.
“I didn’t realise until I met my wife that she did, I think, 13 GCSEs and I did six. And the most you could do at my school was seven. “You’re kind of capped.
You’re not really told that these things are possible. No one’s going to wait to invite you to the table.” James says he learned a lot while appearing in his first film in 1997’s Twenty Four Seven, directed by Shane Meadows. Speaking on the experience 25 years later, he says: “It was a life-changing experience for me.
What I learned from Shane is you’re going to have to bully your way through this. “You’re going to have to get people to budge up to sit at the table if that’s what you want to do. It isn’t going to just be presented to you.” Appearing on the radio show he was asked if he felt it was a risk to leave this chat show, to which he replied: “No.
