Dwayne Johnson Says Dropping Black Adam Will ‘Always Be One of the Biggest Mysteries’: ‘It Got Caught in a Vortex of New Leadership’

Zack Sharf Digital News Director Dwayne Jonson appeared on a new episode of Kevin Hart’s “Hart to Hart” talk show on Peacock (recorded prior to the strike, of course) and looked back at the rise and fall of “Black Adam.” His 2022 comic book tentpole was designed to launch a new chapter of storytelling within Warner Bros.’ DC Universe (the film ended with Henry Cavill’s return as Superman, and the franchise intended to build up to a face off between Johnson and Cavill), but DC Studios was overhauled soon after its release, with new leaders James Gunn and Peter Safran taking the reins. Johnson announced in December that “Black Adam 2” was not moving forward for now. “‘Black Adam’ got caught in a vortex of new leadership,” Johnson said when Hart asked how it felt for franchise to be stopped.

Elizabeth Banks Says the Media Gendered ‘Charlie’s Angels,’ and She Had to Ask for It to Be Promoted to Men: ‘Could We Have an Ad During Baseball?’

Zack Sharf Digital News Director Elizabeth Banks recently told Rolling Stone that the media was behind the “gendered agenda” of “Charlie’s Angels,” her 2019 action-comedy starring Kristen Stewart, Naomi Scott and Ella Balinska that flopped at the box office. The director told The New York Times last year that she wished the film’s marketing “had not been presented as just for girls,” but now she told Rolling Stone that’s the only perspective the media was interested in perpetuating anyway. “So much of the story that the media wanted to tell about ‘Charlie’s Angels’ was that it was some feminist manifesto,” Banks said.

Matt Damon Talks ‘Avatar’ Offer, Missing Out on $250 Million: I ‘Desperately Wanted to Work’ With James Cameron but ‘Couldn’t Leave’ Bourne

Zack Sharf Digital News Director Matt Damon will never be able to escape his decision to turn down James Cameron’s 2009 space epic “Avatar,” which remains the highest-grossing movie of all time with $2.9 billion worldwide (unadjusted for inflation). Damon turned down the film despite an offer that included receiving 10% of the box office back end, which would’ve meant a $250 million payday for him. During a recent interview with Chris Wallace, the “Avatar” offer got brought up again and prompted Damon to explain his thought process behind tossing it off. “I’m sure it’s the most money an actor ever turned down, you know?” Damon said about his decision, stressing that he did not want to get out of his contract for another Jason Bourne movie at the time.

Robert Downey Jr. Thought He Was a ‘Shoe-In’ for ‘The Holiday,’ Then Kate Winslet Roasted Him: ‘That’s the Worst British Accent I’ve Ever Heard’

Zack Sharf Digital News Director Robert Downey Jr. and Jimmy Fallon crashed a recent episode of “The Howard Stern Show” and revealed they auditioned together for Nancy Meyers’ 2006 romantic-comedy “The Holiday.” Downey Jr. read for the part later played by Jude Law, while Fallon auditioned for Jack Black’s role. Both actors knew they weren’t Meyers’ frontrunner picks at the time, and Downey Jr. was well aware Jude Law was stiff competition. “We both got called in just as seat fillers…[director Nancy Meyers] needed someone to read with the gals and we’re sitting there going, ‘It’s about to happen for us,’” Downey said, adding that he felt he was a “shoe-in” to steal the part away from Law. “And I was like, ‘I’ve got to have a better English accent than Jude Law at this point.’ And Winslet said, ‘That was the worst British accent I’ve ever heard.’ And I was like, ‘I’ll check out now, but I’m taking the gummy bears from the minibar.'”

James Cameron denies ‘offensive rumors’ that he’s in talks for film about doomed OceanGate submersible

James Cameron unequivocally denied Saturday that he was in talks to make a film based on the doomed OceanGate submersible that imploded last month while diving toward the Titanic wreckage, killing all five on board.  "I don’t respond to offensive rumors in the media usually, but I need to now," the "Titanic" director wrote on his Instagram Story. "I’m NOT in talks about an OceanGate film, nor will I ever be."  The "Avatar" director, whose 1997 film about the sinking of the Titanic in 1912 won 11 Academy Awards, is a member of the deep submersion community and has dived to the wreckage 33 times himself — but never with OceanGate.  Following the "catastrophic implosion" that killed the OceanGate passengers bound for the Titanic on June 18, Cameron told media outlets he wishes he’d "spoken up" about his concerns over the experimental sub’s design, especially its controversial use of carbon fiber for the hull.  "I thought it was a horrible idea," Cameron told Reuters last month.
