Singer James Arthur can transcend listeners to a happy place with his vocals. But ‘happy’ isn’t a word that James has always been familiar with. Not many can say they shared the stage with a Pussycat Doll aged 24, with 8 million people watching.
When he took the stage in 2012 with Nicole Scherzinger, the North Yorkshire hunk left fans in awe. But the former X Factor star’s life hasn’t always been glamour and success. After battling with his mental health, James - who is set to headline Stirling Summer Sessions alongside icons such as Sir Tom Jones and Shania Twain - is finally seeing clearer skies, as he tells OK!.
Work, the unconditional love he receives from his daughter (Emily, 1, who she shares with his partner, dancer Jessica Grist) and a lust for life will do that to you, he says. After his very public breakdown, James opened up and explored the roots of his fragile mental health in his BBC documentary, James Arthur Out of Our Minds, which saw him face his demons head on. And with the constant pressures of social media, James says he is determined to stay focused in his own lane and continue to make the music he wants to.
He’s unapologetically doing things his way now. Chatting to OK! and with a new lease of life, brand-new music on the way and busy with daddy duties, James opens up about what’s making him smile these days, and pints with Ed Sheeran and Robbie Williams. James, how are you? I’m blessed.
Life is abundant at the moment.
There’s been a lot of full circle moments for me this year. I just headlined my hometown stadium. I’ve done some pretty cool gigs like selling out the O2 and Wembley and performing with Kelly Clarkson.
