The Masked Singer's Davina McCall has been called out for "dissing" fellow judge Rita Ora live on air during the show's return on Saturday night (December 30). Host Joel Dommett announced that Rita couldn't join the ITV show due to prior work commitments, and was temporarily replaced by Charlie Simpson from Busted.
It has been confirmed that Charlie, who won the show last year, will only be on the panel for a week before Rita returns. Joel teased the step-in judge and said: "You [Charlie] look like Jonathan Ross 30 years ago...
you look like father and son." The comment sparked laughter which led Davina to make a comment about it being "really nice to have a vocalist on the panel", reports Birmingham Live, seemingly forgetting that Rita is also a well-known singer. The former Big Brother host added, "They'll be able to hear the intonations and tone" of the performances.
Jonathan Ross quickly pointed out Davina's comment and jokingly said: "That sounds a bit like you're dissing Rita Ora!" The conversation swiftly moved on to Charlie, who expressed his excitement about returning to the show in a new role. He added: "Maybe I'll be able to notice if someone is a performer in their everyday lives or not." Viewers also shared their thoughts on Rita's temporary replacement on X, formerly Twitter, as one viewer said: "Kind of glad Rita isn’t on tonight’s show, and hoping she was skipping the series as I’m not very keen on her #TheMaskedSinger."
