"It was popping like fireworks" - Firefighters tackle huge blaze as homes evacuated following fire in Hyde

Residents were evacuated after a large fire erupted on a major road in Hyde. Firefighters rushed to Stockport Road following reports of a building fire on Monday evening (January 22).
Fire crews from Hyde, Gorton, Stalybridge, Stockport and Whitehill worked hard to tackle the ferocious blaze that appeared to come from a local business in the area. Speaking to the MEN, residents described the shocking moment they saw the huge fire.
Rebecca Morris, 27, said: "I went to the bedroom window I could hear the factory popping away. It was popping like fireworks but quite muffled.
"I looked outside and saw a glow to the neighbours house. I ran to the front bedroom and the whole of Stockport road was engulfed in smoke, so I shouted to my partner there's a huge fire!"

According to Rebecca around '10 to 15 homes' were evacuated in the area and the appeared to be coming from the building of a local business called Visual Architects. The company which is based on Meadow Street in Hyde is described as a "leading provider of immersive décor, transforming events and spaces into unforgettable experiences."
The company boasts projects with major festivals such as Kendall Calling, Parklife, Cottonopolis and Creamfields. Speaking to the MEN, stunned Stockport Road natives, Alannah Foster, 22, and her fiancé Jake Ridgeway, 28, described the strong smell of burning wood in the air during the fire.
"It was really strong." She said. "The smell wasn't chemically but it was very wood burning.
"People were saying that the building was being used to build stages for performances so it must have been a lot of wood and stage equipment in that building."
