In West Didsbury, the most recent venue to disappear from the main street was the West Village bar. The site has been sitting empty since the New Year and was listed for sale online.
Nearby luxury homeware store Moth also announced its closure after 17 years on the West Didsbury high street just last month. Also in January, cafe and deli A Taste of Honey, that served up signature cakes, sandwiches and coffees, announced its closure.
The latest closures come in the wake of the devastating news that Greens, Simon Rimmer's vegetarian restaurant on Lapwing Lane, was forced to shut its doors for the last time on January 2 after 33 years in business. The team behind the much-loved restaurant said they could "no longer make it work" after their landlord increased rent by 35 per cent, and rising costs making trading "impossible".
