Irma Kalish, Prolific and Pioneering TV Comedy Writer, Dies at 96

Irma Kalish was a pioneering TV producer and writer for classic sitcoms including “Maude,” “The Facts of Life,” and “Good Times.”Kalish was one of the first women working behind the scenes in television when she began her TV career in the 1950s. She got her start working in radio, writing for “The Martin & Lewis Show” along with her late husband, Austin “Rocky” Kalish.

Irma Kalish — who had a storied writing and producing career in television alongside her late husband, Austin “Rocky” Kalish — died on Sept. 3 of complications from pneumonia.

Irma Kalish, one of television’s first female producers whose writing and producing credits with her husband and writing partner include the Norman Lear series Maude, All in the Family and Good Times as well as My Favorite Martian, My Three Sons, Gilligan’s Island, I Dream of Jeannie, The Bob Newhart Show and Too Close for Comfort, died September 3 in Woodland Hills, CA due to complications from pneumonia. She was 96.
