Nowadays there is seemingly no shortage of smart skincare launches promising miraculous-sounding results, from turning back the clock on signs of ageing to delivering a glow like that from a professional facial. So when we heard about the new L’Oréal Paris Revitalift Laser Retinol + Niacinamide Pressed Night Cream, £27.99 here, which promises anti-ageing results after just 10 nights, we admit we thought this sounded too good to be true. It brings together two skin superstars – retinol and niacinamide – into one night cream for turbo-charged results.
Considered the gold standard in skincare, retinol (a derivative of vitamin A) boosts cell turnover and collagen production, while niacinamide – aka vitamin B3 – has antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties. Combined, this cream promises to gently but effectively reduce wrinkles and even skin tone in just 10 nights. To put this claim to the test, we sent the L’Oréal cream out to 41 of our Beauty Edit testers and asked them to record any changes in their skin, both after 10 days and after four weeks of using it.
And the results were impressive. Aside from a handful of people who experienced a slight retinol reaction (see below for how to avoid this), nearly three-quarters of testers saw an anti-ageing result after just 10 nights, and 85% rated it either four or five stars for skin rejuvenation after a month, with visible improvements in fine lines, firmness and skin tone. Many even received compliments from partners and friends on how good their skin was looking.
