Married At First Sight UK’s Alexis Economou has shared her recent health scare after doctors discovered a large tumour on her ovaries. Alexis, who shot to fame on MAFS 2021, recently underwent surgery to remove the tumour and three months on, she’s still waiting on her results. She also revealed that she began having endometriosis symptoms in 2018 but, similar to Molly-Mae Hague, the reality TV star kept being sent away.
According to studies, endometriosis can cause an increased risk of benign gynaecological tumours. However, Alexis is unsure whether her tumour and endometriosis are linked. “The symptoms never went away, so I basically kept going back [to the doctors] for the same thing,” Alexis, 29, told us.
“It got to the point where my GP transferred me over to the sexual health clinic because they thought it might be something on that side. I was going through loads of tests with the clinic and everything was constantly negative – they could never understand. Then, whenever they did an internal examination, I’d have a lot of pain.” This made the clinic realise that there was something else going on and sent Alexis for some scans. It was upon receiving an internal scan that Alexis was found to have a lesion tumour – a non-cancerous tumour – on her left ovary.
“After that, it was just a waiting game for an operation,” Alexis went on. “I didn’t have the operation until three months ago when I found out about the lesion tumour a whole year and half prior to the surgery. “By the time they did the surgery three months ago, the surgeon said that the tumour was so big that it was basically hanging off my ovary.
