It may still be September, but that hasn't stopped John Lewis from upping the Christmas game by unveiling its lavish Beauty Advent Calendar for 2023.

We may currently be sweating through September’s Indian summer, but I’ve just had a blatant reminder that Christmas is not far away – I’ve received my first beauty advent calendar. It may seem crazy to be thinking about December at the moment, but beauty advent calendars are big business, and brands launch theirs earlier and earlier every year. But with so many on the market nowadays, it can be hard to know which one to buy.
When I first read about LookFantastic’s advent calendar this year,I immediately liked the sound of it. It’s a beauty retailer I shop from regularly, the brand names inside were really good, and the money saving is super impressive – it costs £99 but the products inside are worth £565. So when I was lucky enough to get my hands on it ahead of sale, I knew I wouldn’t be able to wait until 1 December to take a peek inside.
First up, I really like LookFantastic’s packaging this year. It’s a very chic purple box that opens up at the front and back to reveal 25 drawers. Both sides have flaps that hide the contents, tied up with sparkly bronze ribbons (one of which my kittens immediately ripped off – sorry, LookFantastic…).
It looks luxe and it’s genuinely exciting to open, and can be closed up each day to save space. I won’t spoil it for those who want to keep the contents a surprise – if you want a full list of what’s inside, keep scrolling down – but I was really impressed. You get 27 products in total (a couple of drawers contain more than one item), and 12 of them are full size.

Any time Martin Scorsese makes a film, it’s a big event, and his crime drama, “Killer Of The Flower Moon,” has been at the top of our Most Anticipated Films of The Year list two years in a row (there was hope that it might arrive in 2022). Starring Leonardo DiCaprio, Robert De Niro, and Lily Gladstone (“Certain Women”), it’s about a series of murders that took place in Omaha’s Osage Nation in the 1920s; essentially, the Osage Native Indians were getting rich off the oil they were legally entitled to, and this made a lot of racist white people incredibly unhappy, to say the least.
