"I'm thrilled": Families react to easing of restrictions on care home visits

Families in Greater Manchester are celebrating following the Government's announcement that care home residents will be able to receive 'unlimited' visits from Monday.
Currently, residents can only nominate three people for regular visits to care settings but from Monday there will be no limit as guidance brought in to tackle Omicron is eased.

It comes as the rate of booster jabs among residents reaches 86.5 percent, according to the Government.
For many families, it's a time of celebration for a new level of freedom in contact with their loved ones.
Care home bosses have also welcomed the news, in some cases tentatively as they struggle with staff shortages amid the Omicron outbreak and general weariness after two years of the pandemic.
Some managers have also told the Manchester Evening News they were not informed of the rule changes until they were sent out by the Department of Health as a press release.
However, many families are today focussed on the positives.
Graham Barlow's father George Barlow, 94, has been a resident at care homes in Trafford for five years.
George caught coronavirus at the beginning of the pandemic and Graham was told by medics he might not survive.
During the pandemic, Colin has visited his dad only behind a glass screen in a purpose-built room.
Visits were limited to 30 minutes and George, who lives with dementia, struggled to use the intercom.
"In recent months we have had face-to-face visits after a lateral flow but it's just the three named people, which is me, my brother and sister," said Graham.
"Now his grandchildren will be able to go and see him., or my wife or other in-laws."
He
