Asda employee Ron Ellis is celebrating two major milestones, with his 90th birthday also making him the oldest worker.
The customer service worker at the Trafford Park store celebrated his birthday on April 24th, with his colleagues pulling out all the stops to celebrate this 'kind and caring' man. He was presented with gifts, chocolates and a card while the checkout are was decked out with balloons and customers singing happy birthday.
Widower Ron works four days a week at the store and started there 18 years ago as a greeter before moving to checkouts and self service. Prior to this he worked as an estimator at a steelworks.
When asked about his job, Ron said: ""I love my job and I've no plans to retire – I'm still going strong and I love coming to work,"
"My colleagues here are brilliant, fantastic. We get on so well. When it was my birthday they were so kind. A lot of people don't know how old I am so it came as a surprise. That day will remain firmly in my memory for the rest of my days, it was fantastico."

Ron, who has two sons and two grandchildren, is also a firm favourite with the customers who also praised him and the 'personalised service' he gives.
Customer Sarah Howard said: "Ron always makes me feel welcome, we chat all the time. When I come to checkouts he makes a beeline for me, I always look out for him."
A second shopper at the store, Rachel Smith, added: "He's a true gentleman. He's a lovely, kind colleague. Nothing is too much trouble. We think of him as a family member. You can see he still enjoys his job at Asda as he always has time with customers and gives a personalised service."
