Residents of Gladstone Road in Eccles have spoken of their shock after armed police descended on their road last night (28 June).
Police arrived on scene following reports of a woman being attacked by a dog understood by GMP to be a banned breed in the UK.
Video footage captured the moment that officers shot the animal in the middle of the street which has now been circulated across multiple social media platforms. The M.E.N understands that the video does not show the full incident.

Police cars blocked the junction connecting Liverpool Road and Gladstone Road during the incident, as police followed the dog as it weaved between cars and ultimately 'destroyed' the animal as it was the 'last possible option'.
One resident recalled hearing about 'six gun shots and the owners screaming and shouting' before looking outside to see officers surrounding the animal.
This morning, many residents of the area were still in disbelief over the events that had happened less than 24 hours ago.
A man who lived in the flats opposite spoke of his horror of hearing the shots ring out last night.
He said: "I heard the gun shots from my flat, I didn't know what was going on. I counted six shots. I didn't think something like that would happen around here,"
"I went on Facebook a little later on and saw this video of the police shooting this dog and saw it was Gladstone. It made me feel sick. I know someone has been hurt but its the owners and not the dog to blame in situations like this really is it?"
It is understood by the M.E.N that a taser was fired at first before the gunshots were heard.
