The Chancellor has confirmed an extension to the Household Support Fund.
The scheme helps millions of households across the country pay for bills, food, and other essential goods. So far, the scheme has provided more than £2.5 billion in welfare support through local authorities.
Initially, the scheme was set to end on March 31, however, Jeremy Hunt announced in the Spring Budget that it will now go on for an extra six months. This provides vulnerable families more time to benefit from the support offered by local councils.

The chancellor confirmed that an extra £500 million would be provided to enable the Household Support Fund to continue in England between April and September 2024.
Mr Hunt told the House of Commons: "I have decided that with the battle against inflation still not over, now is not the time to stop the targeted help it offers. We will therefore continue it at current levels for another six months.”
Eligibility to receive help from the Household Support Fund can vary as each council decides its own parameters to offer support. Some support is only offered to people on certain benefits, but the government has told councils that benefits are not an essential criterion.
Official government guidance for councils states that the Household Support Fund is aimed at anyone who is considered vulnerable and is unable to pay for essentials such as energy and water bills as well as food.
