It's a place that has played an important part in the lives of thousands of Mancunians.
For generations, North Manchester General Hospital (NMGH) has been the scene of some of life's happiest and saddest moments. Yet years of underinvestment have seen its Victoria-era estate fall into a tired, dilapidated state.
Earlier this year, an MP reported how theatres at the hospital were closed for over a month after a ceiling collapsed. Plans for a long-awaited revamp first emerged back in 2019, and the-then Prime Minsiter Boris Johnson vowed to rebuild the site following his election victory later that year.
However, years of apparent inaction saw doctors, hospital leaders and councillors raise questions over whether the promise would be kept.

This week, it was revealed that the huge project to rebuild the crumbling hospital will finally go ahead. A health chief told the M.E.N that the approximate start date for 'major works' is 2025, with a completion date of 2030.
The government has promised to completely transform the site while multi-million pound plans put forward by the hospital trust, Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust (MFT), spell a complete overhaul of the Crumpsall area. They include a new acute hospital, a new mental health inpatient unit, a wellbeing hub, an education hub, a new residential community, housing, commercial space and a village green.
For those who live on the streets surrounding NMGH, the prospect of a new hospital is a welcome prospect.
