Hollyoaks star Nicole Barber-Lane’s surprising new career after quitting Myra McQueen role

Hollyoaks star Nicole Barber-Lane has surprised fans with an unusual career choice, three years on from her iconic turn as Myra McQueen in the Channel 4 soap. The 52 year old star, left the soap in 2019, after 13 years as the McQueen family’s formidable matriarch.
Yet rather than continue acting since her exit, Nicole has opted to pursue an entirely different career choice as she has since become a Reiki practitioner - and even sometimes gives tarot and oracle card readings to her showbiz pals.The practice, which is a form of energy healing that originated in Japan, is considered to be a form of alternative medicine, and widely regarded by experts to be a pseudoscience. Practitioners trained in the art use a special technique called “palm healing” in which their hands are placed on a person, in order to transfer “universal energy” to a patient in order to encourage emotional or physical healing.
While there’s no proof that the practice works beyond anything other than a placebo, it hasn’t stopped Nicole from loving every minute of her new vocation and there’s been no shortage of patients reaching out for help either. Speaking to Spirit and Destiny magazine about her new role, Nicole said: "Since Covid, I've been doing distance healing and still get calls from actor friends who need help," Nicole explained.
"I do oracle card readings as well as Reiki, but I don't publicise that." "I find tarot cards can scare people, whereas oracle cards ease people in. When I'm giving a reading, I always say, 'Don't tell me anything, because I don't want to feel influenced by something you say’."
