Hospital soap Holby City will come to an end next year after 23 years, the BBC has announced.
A statement from the broadcaster said the 'difficult decision' came with 'great sadness', but that they have to make room for new opportunities.
The move is in a bid to better reflect and serve all parts of the country as part of their commitment to make more programmes across the UK, the BBC said.

screens, with its final episode confirmed and set to air in March 2022. The announcement was shared via the medical soap's official Twitter account and described that the "tough decision" was made as a result of the BBC's plan to make more programmes across the UK.
After 23 years of being on television, Holby City has been officially axed.The BBC released a statement that read: "We are incredibly proud of Holby City but it’s with great sadness that we are announcing that after 23 years, the show will end on screen in March of next year.
The BBC is canceling Holby City, one of its longest-running and best-loved dramas after 23 years.
