Anyone with children will be familiar with the CBeebies show Bedtime Stories and to mark Children’s Mental Health Week, the Duchess of Cambridge has recorded a very special episode which will be aired this Sunday. Mental health is a subject very close to Kate’s heart so it’s no surprise that she agreed to appear on the iconic show to raise awareness.
And now, OK! can reveal the hidden meaning behind Kate Middleton's chosen book, The Owl Who's Afraid of the Dark, by Jill Tomlinson.The story follows Plop, a baby owl who’s afraid of the dark but who realises after meeting different characters that there is magic to be found in it. You can sign up at the top of the page.The story gives comfort to children with fears and anxieties, and royal expert Jennie Bond spoke to OK! exclusively about the relevance of the book and how 40 year old Kate’s choice ties into her whole ethos about parenting. Jennie told us: "I think the choice of story is very on-message.The Owl Who Was Afraid of the Dark ties in with her early years work and [work with] mental health issues.” Jennie went on to explain that the Duchess’ passion about building children’s confidence was also demonstrated in her 2019 collaboration with landscape architects Andrée Davies and Adam White on the Royal Horticultural Society Back to Nature Garden, which she helped design as part of the Chelsea Flower Show.
