A pensioner who was spared jail four years ago over a secret haul of vile child abuse images and videos is facing a prison sentence again after police caught him with a sick new stash.
Darryl Walters, 75, walked free from court in 2020 despite being found in possession of 51,189 indecent images and videos, mostly of girls aged between eight and 12 - which he had collected over a 10-year period.
At the time, the pensioner was said to be a 'good husband who had lived a good life and had always worked hard'. A judge said he had been 'a constructive member of the local community' and held back from sending him immediately to custody.

As a result, Walters was ordered to complete an 18 month community order and abide by the terms of a five-year Sexual Harm Prevention Order (SHPO).
But a court heard that in January 2022, Walters, of Meeting Lane, Penketh, Warrington, was arrested again by police carrying out a routine check of his compliance with the order. Officers found hundreds more indecent images on his phone and also on a USB stick.
Detectives searched his bedroom and found two A4-size pictures of girls aged between seven and 12 wearing sexually explicit clothing. They also seized a piece of paper with details of suspicious websites and a password for a virtual private network.
At Warrington magistrates court, Walters admitted possession of 120 indecent photos of children and making 649 indecent photos of children between February 25, 2021 and January 24, 2022. He also pleaded guilty to charges of breaching the order by interfering with the retention of his internet browsing history and having a VPN installed.
