Warner Bros. keeps announcing big changes.
Following a lot of rumors and speculation about the company’s streamers and their offerings (which may or may not be safe from getting cancelled), executives confirmed on a call on Thursday (August 4) that HBO Max and Discovery+ are about to be merged into one streaming service.
The combined service is said to include ad-free, ad-lite and ad-only options, and will also offer on-demand and live programming.

HBO Max and Discovery+ will launch in the U.S. as a single service in the summer of 2023, CEO JB Perrette said. The name of the service was not revealed, nor was the pricing for the streaming service.
On the same call, involving second quarter earnings, Warner Bros. said HBO Max, HBO and Discovery+ subscribers combined were 92.1 million, up 1.7 million from 90.4 million the prior quarter, an up 22% (75.8 million) versus a year earlier.
The businesses lost subscribers domestically in Q2 however, dropping 300,000, going from 53.3 million in the first quarter to 53.0 million as of June 30 in the U.S. and Canada, via Variety.
Rumors swirled earlier in the week that Warner Bros. is about to cut 70% of the production staff at HBO Max, reportedly putting a halt on scripted HBO Max content.
