‘Hamilton’ film starring original cast to be released a year early on Disney+

Before there was or, Lin-Manuel Miranda was the co-founder and member of a hip-hop improv troupe called Freestyle Love Supreme alongside director Thomas Kail and beatboxer Anthony Veneziale. Their performances eventually went from the streets to screen, for a short-lived TV series on Pivot, and finally to the Broadway stage, where the three reunited with performers like Christopher Jackson for a limited run at Booth Theatre in New York City during the fall of 2019.

The filmed version of Lin-Manuel Miranda‘s historical stage musical Hamilton will debut in July (2020) on the Disney+ streaming service, rather than in cinemas next year as planned.

Are you willing to wait for it? “Hamilton” fans might not be able to see the musical production live on Broadway right now, but at least they can stream it. The Tony and GRAMMY Award-winning musical is coming to Disney+, Bob Iger, Disney executive chairman, and Lin-Manuel Miranda, the musical’s star and creator, announced on Tuesday’s “Good Morning America”.

In need of something new to stream? Just you wait… On Tuesday, Disney announced that it will be bringing the highly-anticipated Hamilton stage film to the small screen sooner than expected. The film, which was originally slated for a theatrical release on October 15, 2021, will now be available to stream exclusively through Disney+ starting July 3, 2020.

Lin-Manuel Miranda and Disney+ have announced that the Hamilton film will not only bypass a theatrical run and head straight to streaming, but the release date has been moved up by a year and a half. The movie will now debut on Disney+ on July 3, 2020.
