The discovery of a Halloween prop - amid a police murder investigation into human remains found in Salford - sparked an alert at a nearby rugby club.
The prop, showing a hand, was found by boys warming up before a game at Broughton Cricket and Rugby Club on Saturday morning, a club official told the Manchester Evening News. "I saw it and I thought it looked real," said club steward Gordon McEwan.
Police investigating the discovery by a member of the public of a man's lower body, wrapped in layers of cellophane, on nearby Radford Street in Kersal on Thursday were called to the rugby club, and quickly confirmed the item was actually a Halloween prop.

Today a spokeswoman for Greater Manchester Police confirmed the item is a prop, not a human arm.
Mr McEwan, 54, the club steward who lives on the grounds, told the M.E.N: "It did look genuine. We had 20 police and CSI down here and they cordoned it off. They've picked it up and realised it was a Halloween prop."
He said it was found by 'some lads warming up' who kicked a ball into the bushes. "Straight away we closed the field and sent everybody home," said Mr McEwan.
He went on that officers photographed the item and 'went through all the procedures' before one 'picked it up and said it was actually a Halloween prop'.
A picture of the item is being shared widely on social media with many people believing, incorrectly, it is a real arm.
Today police investigating the real human remains found nearby were continuing to search the Kersal Dale area. One possibility is that other body parts may have been disposed of in the nearby River Irwell and underwater search units have been used.

J. Kim Murphy It’s a primate face-off at the box office this weekend, plus some old-fashioned Antichrist horror on the side. Legendary Entertainment and Warner Bros.’ “Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire” looks to stick on top of domestic charts, holding off the opening weekend bows of Universal’s beat-em-up “Monkey Man” and 20th Century Studios’ horror revival “The First Omen.” That kaiju victory lap probably has less to do with the staying power of “The New Empire” than the strength of its competition though.
