Gypsy Rose Blanchard celebrated her Dec. 28 release from prison by posting a “I’m finally free” message on social media.
Blanchard, who became the subject of Hulu’s 2019 limited series The Act, served seven years of a 10-year sentence after pleading guilty to second degree murder for helping to kill her mother. For years, Clauddine “Dee Dee” Blanchard convinced her daughter that she was sick when she wasn’t.
Blanchard and her then-boyfriend Nicholas Godejohn stabbed Dee Dee in June 2015. Godejohn is serving a life sentence.
“Hey everyone, this is Gypsy. I’m finally free,” she said Sunday on Instagram. “I just wanted to send a quick video to thank everyone for the massive amount of support that I’ve been getting on social media, everyone has been really, really nice and supportive and I really appreciate that. It’s nice to be home. I’m back home in Louisiana, enjoying a beautiful day outside and I’ve got a lot of great things happening really soon.”
She also talked about her Lifetime docuseries, The Prison Confessions of Gypsy Rose Blanchard, premiering Jan. 5, as well as her upcoming e-book, Released: Conversations on the Eve of Freedom. “It’s not a rehashing of everything that happened, it’s more of my reflection of everything that I’ve learned and experienced in the last eight and a half years,” she said.
