‘Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3’ Helmer James Gunn Once Had Big Plans for the MCU’s Cosmic Side: ‘I Was Consulting on Everything’

Iron Man director Jon Favreau, Robert Downey Jr. was initially considered for a different role in the film that kickstarted the Marvel Cinematic Universe.Downey first starred as Iron Man (aka Tony Stark) in the titular 2008 film, and went on to reprise the role in a further nine MCU entries, including two direct sequels to Iron Man (released in 2010 and 2013, respectively).

When you hear the name Tony Stark the actor that comes to mind is Robert Downey Jr. as he played him in the MCU starting with 2008’s Iron Man. However, Downey was not always going to play the billionaire philanthropist and was in talks to play a whole different character.

Playing Tony Stark/Iron Man in the 2008 movie that spawned the Marvel Cinematic Universe not only cemented the comeback of Robert Downey Jr., it also made him one of Hollywood’s most sought-after and highest-paid actors.

Elizabeth Olsen is offering advice to future MCU actors.

Ethan Shanfeld “Just give them one.” That’s Elizabeth Olsen’s advice for actors thinking about joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The “WandaVision” star told Josh Horowitz on the “Happy Sad Confused” podcast that by initially only agreeing to one Marvel project, actors can gain more “creative control” for the next one. “That way you have more control over… If you, let’s say, ‘Oh my God, this is the most fun I’ve ever had and I love this character so much, I want to do it again,’ you now have more creative control for the next one,” Olsen said.

Gunn told TheWrap that he consulted on nearly everything for Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige.“I was consulting on everything. I was consulting on all the Marvel movies,” Gunn said on the “Guardians of the Galaxy 3” press tour. “Kevin would send me the script for ‘Spider-Man’ and I’d give my notes.

Marvel has set the Disney+ premiere dates for the second season of “Loki” with Tom Hiddleston, and the “Hawkeye” spinoff series “Echo,” studio chief Kevin Feige announced during the Disney upfront Tuesday. The Season 2 premiere of “Loki” will debut Oct.

James Gunn is unveiling Pete Davidson's secret role. On Sunday, the director replied to a fan's question on Twitter, revealing that he voiced Lambshank in the movie and that Davidson voiced the character of Phlektik.The chatter surrounding Davidson's involvement in the film started when fans noticed the former  star's name in the credits.Alongside a selfie of Gunn with Davidson and star Chris Pratt, the director shared, «My friend Pete not only voiced but actually came to visit us in Atlanta for a day and played Phlektik on set.»I voiced the beautiful Lambshank. I don't want to show her here because she's too gorgeous & I don't want folks to feel bad about themselves in comparison.

James Gunn has said he considered killing off Zoe Saldaña’s Gamora in 2017’s Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 2.The director discussed his original plan for the character in an interview with ComicBook.com, where he explained that Marvel executives Kevin Feige and Louis D’Esposito talked him out of the decision.“Gamora almost died in Vol. 2,” Gunn said.
