Documentary Film Festival, or CPH:DOX as it is known, has announced it will open with “Into the Ice” by Lars Henrik Ostenfeld.A striking film about Greenland’s melting ice sheet, it follows the director on his travels alongside three pioneering glaciologists into the bowels of one of the most hostile places on Earth.“We all know the ice is melting which will result in an enormous rise in sea levels and have major consequences for populations around the world.

Naman Ramachandran Producer and financier Anton (“Greenland,” “The Night House”) has hired Leslie Chen as senior VP, international distribution and sales and has elevated consultant Louis Balsan to executive VP, international distribution and acquisitions. They will be part of Anton’s German office and will report into Paris-based Cécile Gaget, president of international production and distribution.

Greenland is a country that most people will never visit. It doesn’t have the appeal that other European countries might have, and mostly that’s because the weather and landscape seem beautiful but also pretty inhospitable.

A sequel to Greenland is in the works!

Gerard Butler is returning to Greenland. The Scottish actor is set to reprise his role as John Garrity in Greenland: Migration, a sequel to action thriller Greenland. The core filmmaking team will return with director Ric Roman Waugh headlining from a script by Greenland writer Chris Sparling. Butler’s co-star Morena Baccarin will also reprise her role as Allison Garrity. 

A sequel to the 2020 disaster film “Greenland” starring Gerard Butler is in the works, with both Butler and Morena Baccarin set to return for the feature. Ric Roman Waugh, who directed the first film that was released last year during the pandemic but still made $52.3 million internationally at the box office, will also return and will direct a script by “Greenland” writer Chris Sparling.

Leading the charge this week in streaming and specialty titles is Netflix with two films that have been garnering awards season buzz with their star wattage and prestige storytelling.

As far as Butler’s films go, “Greenland” could have been so much worse. “The Bounty Hunter” was so awful, after watching it I felt like … a comet had just hit Earth!

On a molecular level, Ric Roman Waugh’s “Greenland” is a global disaster picture like any other disaster picture: there is a disaster (natch) that strikes across the world (of course) and the picture’s focus lands on the shoulders of one ordinary guy with family problems who hauls maximum ass to not only rescue his family from said disaster but also reconcile said problems.
