GMB's Charlotte Hawkins recalls terrifying dog attack on pal's daughter, 8, as she launches ITV investigation

Good Morning Britain star Charlotte Hawkins has recalled a terrifying dog bite ordeal involving her friend's young daughter. The ITV host had been walking with her pal's eight-year-old when two huge canines started jumping up from the other side of a fence.
Charlotte tried to reassure the youngster she was safe and the dogs couldn't get to her. But the 48-year-old was left shocked and scared herself when one of the two animals ripped through the fence without warning, knocking the girl to the ground and biting her. Helpless Charlotte was carrying her baby in a sling and was unable to fight off the animal.
Thankfully, the wee one recovered from the attack in hospital, but Charlotte has said the moment changed her view on just how at risk people are from dangerous dogs as she launches an ITV investigation into the issue.
“The experience shook me deeply. It’s a problem we must tackle. Seeing my friend’s daughter being attacked by a big dog was shocking and scary. It showed me how quickly something like that can happen," she told the Mirror.
"The two big dogs were barking aggressively. I was saying, ‘Don’t worry, they won’t be able to get out’. But one of the dogs did get out. I felt particularly vulnerable because I had my baby in a child carrier, so I was holding her and I knew I couldn’t step in and help. My friend’s daughter was knocked to the ground and it was so scary. It’s definitely made me more alert to the potential dangers.”
Charlotte went on to reveal her 16-year-old rescue dog Bailey, a terrier cross she adopted at four months old, sadly died just last week.
She added: “It’s very upsetting for us, Bailey was a much-loved member of the family. It’s very hard and it’s going to take me a long time to get over it.
