By If you were disappointed by the lack of actual sex on , there's a new HBO Max series that has you covered (and then some): Enter Minx, a fast-paced, thought-inducing, feminist, erotic comedy that stars Ophelia Lovibond opposite .Over the course of 10 episodes—two of which are available today, March 17—you'll dive into the polyester-clad world of the 1970s where Joyce (Lovibond) is determined to create a women's magazine that isn't about pleasing a man or losing five pounds. She struggles to get it off the ground, until an interesting meet-cute with low-rent porn magazine publisher Doug (Johnson).
The two end up creating the first erotic magazine for women, and it combines both of their interests: provocative images with smart, forward-thinking features. Samantha Jones would have fit right in. It feels like a gift to have Johnson back on our TV screens, and the is as charming as ever as Doug—a character that in anyone else's hands might come off as sleazy.
Part of what makes the character work so well is his chemistry and banter with Lovibond's Joyce. You might recognize the British actor from Guardians of the Galaxy (she played Carina) or as Kitty Winter in CBS's Elementary, but Minx will hopefully (and frankly, should) be the project that puts her on the map. Jake Johnson and Ophelia Lovibond attend the screening and launch party for HBO Max's Minx at the Hollywood Roosevelt on March 08, 2022.Born in Hammersmith, a district of West London, and raised in nearby Shepherd's Bush, Lovibond didn't have any formal training in her early years.
("I didn't go to drama school. We used to live in like project housing in Hammersmith," she says.) However, she did join a theater club for local kids on the property.
