NEW YORK -- Daisy Hernández's “The Kissing Bug,” a memoir about a lethal illness that killed her aunt, has received a $75,000 prize from PEN America.The literary and free expression organization announced Monday that Hernández had won the PEN/Jean Stein Book Award for a work of any genre demonstrating “originality, merit and impact, with Joy Williams' “Harrow” and Percival Everett's “The Trees” among the finalists.Other winners included Yoon Choi’s “Skinship,” which received the $25,000 PEN/Robert W. Bingham Prize for best debut story collection, and Margaret Renkl’s “Graceland, at Last,” presented the $15,000 PEN/Diamonstein-Spielvogel Award for the Art of the Essay.

In the half-hour show, Jones stars as Suzie, an American woman living in Kyoto, Japan, whose life is upended when her husband and son disappear in a mysterious plane crash. As “consolation” she’s given Sunny, one of a new class of domestic robots made by her husband’s electronics company.

The Queen has been seen smiling in a new photo released on Sunday 6 February to mark the day she ascended to the throne 70 years ago. Queen Elizabeth, 95, is wearing a lime green dress for the occasion as she sits in a patterned chair in front of a red briefcase. As she marks becoming the longest reigning monarch with the snap, Her Majesty paid a sweet tribute to her late father King George VI.

Sunday 6 February 2022 marks a special and sad day for The Queen. Not only is it 70 years since the passing of her father, King George VI's death in 1952, but of course it is also the day she stepped up into her role as Queen.  And as the historic day 70 years ago unfolded, a new Royal protocol was established about how the family should be prepared for attending a funeral. Her Majesty was informed of the death of her beloved father during an official royal tour of Kenya in 1952, where she was accompanied by Prince Philip.

The Queen's Platinum Jubilee is believed to have a huge budget of between £10 million and £15 million, and it'll take place this year to celebrate her 70th year on the throne.This is the first time in history that any monarch has been on the throne for that long. When Queen Elizabeth gained her title at just 25 years old it was because her beloved father, King George VI, had died after a battle with lung cancer. At the time, the Queen, now 95, was in Kenya on a Commonwealth tour, but her exact reaction upon hearing of her father's death has since been revealed by Prince Philip's cousin Lady Pamela Hicks, who witnessed it.
