Gen V is coming!
The Prime Video series, a spinoff of their hit show The Boys, premieres on September 29.
Ahead of the premiere, Entertainment Weekly revealed that some of the stars of the show will be crossing over to the spinoff series.
Gen V follows the students of Godolkin University, the Vought-owned-and-operated college dedicated to molding the minds of the next generation of super-humans.
“In The Boys, we’re seeing a bunch of superheroes where they wound up. But in this show, we aren’t only following the supes in terms of their journey about becoming supes. We’re following their journey in terms of how they’re becoming people and how they’re growing up and evolving and learning and creating relationships and destroying relationships — and really, at a core, figuring out what it means to be a hero. The thing that I love so much about our show is that we don’t actually really answer that question,” says Asa Germann, who plays Sam.

When I was in college cinema courses I made a Super 8 film called Movie Girl. It was a Hollywood-set love letter to movies centered on a Musso & Franks waitress who put herself dreamily into the plots of classic films. It won an award there but was the highlight of the directing career I never had. However I have always been partial to filmmakers who put their own early film going experience and passion into their careers now. You may have heard of them. Kenneth Branagh won an Oscar for doing just that in Belfast. Steven Spielberg got several nominations last year for his very personal The Fabelmans . Woody Allen had his own charming take in The Purple Rose Of Cairo. Peter Bogdanovich made a lasting impression with 1971’s The Last Picture Show, as did Giuseppe Tornatore with his Oscar winner, Cinema Paradiso. It is a combination of the latter two especially that might describe the feel of the latest movie about the love of movies, The Movie Teller (La Contadora de Peliculas) which had its World Premiere tonight at the Toronto Film Festival. And just in sheer numbers of classic film clips incorporated into its near two hour running time, this one sets a record in the little sub-genre. For movie lovers everywhere The Movie Teller is a must see.

“Three and a half years in jail or twenty-five (thousand) in the bank”? That’s the premise, essentially, of the new MUBI dramedy, “The Delinquents,” which was one of the big hits from Cannes’ Un Certain Regard section earlier this year (read our glowing review here). In short, bank workers toiling away for pennies get fed up, know the system well, and think they can pull off a bank heist with minimal interruptions to their lives—some jail time— and meanwhile, they get rich.

Lily Allen has told a theatre critic to “get in the bin” over their comments about her West End show The Pillowman. The play, which recently came to the end of its run at the Duke of York’s Theatre in London, saw Allen play Katurian, a writer who is questioned by the authorities about a spate of murders that bear similarities to her short stories.Written by The Banshees of Inisherin director Martin McDonagh, The Pillowman also starred Steve Pemberton and Paul Kaye.Following a string of mixed reviews for the show, Allen has found herself involved in an online spat with theatre critic Mark Shenton. It all started when Shenton took exception to a positive review quote from All That Dazzles, which read: “Undoubtedly one of the best plays of the year.”In a blog post, Shenton branded the review “utterly meaningless” as it came from a “blog that calls just about every show they see as ‘potentially’ or ‘undoubtedly’ one of the best of the year”.Shenton then took aim at the The Pillowman director Matthew Dunster on X (formerly Twitter), stating that he was “relieved” that he missed the show.In response, Allen fired back: “This is such a bizarre stance for a so called theatre enthusiast. 60000 people bought tickets to come and see this show and I’d say 90% of them were up on their feet at the curtain.“It’s insane that a quote on a poster is what stopped you from coming to see something that you profess to care so much about.
