As with every new month, there are a few key gardening tasks that should be completed during May. One of these is to do with any seedlings you may have, and it's essential when it comes to preparing them for summer.
Green-fingered whizz Sophie, also known on TikTok as @lookinsidemygarden, says that the beginning of May is the ideal time to get out into the garden and carry out a few essential tasks for a lush and thriving space come summer.
Posting on her account, which has a loyal following of over 17,000 people, Sophie highlighted some of the must-do jobs for gardening fans this month.
And if you've got seedlings in your garden, there's one tip you'll want to know about, as it'll help you to prepare your plants for the upcoming season.
Sophie suggested that if you have seedlings planted in a greenhouse, now is the time to think about hardening them off and moving them outside. This will allow them to get used to the wind and the sun after being sheltered inside.
She said: "You'll see that the stems get nice and strong, ready to be planted out. This can be done over a period of a few weeks."
For seedlings that aren't ready to be moved out of your greenhouse just yet, the most important thing to remember is making sure they are watered.
Sophie added: "You can give them a bit of a feed, thin out, pot on and get them ready to be planted out.
"I've got a lot of thinning out to do but you just have to prioritise it. Do what you can manage and don't feel overwhelmed. It's also a great time to cull too many seedlings."
